What is the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Paris?

It is the first traditional, purpose-built Hindu mandir in France. Built by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, it follows ancient Hindu temple architecture using hand-carved stone, similar in spirit to the well-known BAPS mandirs in London (Neasden), New Jersey (Robbinsville), and Abu Dhabi. It sits in the Parisian suburb of Bussy-Saint-Georges and is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds.

What is the 50-year story behind Paris Mandir?

This mandir is the result of a vision that began more than 50 years ago. It is a story of faith, patience, and the blessings of BAPS gurus. Here is the journey, step by step:

Year The milestone
July 1970 Yogiji Maharaj, during a stopover at Le Bourget Airport in Paris, asks Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj to sanctify the land of France.
4 May 1988 Pramukh Swami Maharaj rides over Paris in a helicopter and showers flower petals from the sky to bless the city.
August 1995 Shortly before inaugurating the Neasden Mandir in London, Pramukh Swami Maharaj shares his vision of a Hindu mandir in Paris.
October 2017 The Mayor of Bussy-Saint-Georges meets Mahant Swami Maharaj and confirms land for the mandir on the town’s multi-faith esplanade.
October 2021 A Vedic ceremony is performed to sanctify the chosen site.
2024 Construction formally begins, and the global project is launched in satsang assemblies.
September 2026 The vision is fulfilled — the mandir opens during the Paris Mandir Mahotsav.

So when you stand before this mandir, you are witnessing the fulfilment of a dream nurtured across three gurus and five decades. That is what makes this Mahotsav so special.

Where exactly is the BAPS Paris, Mandir located?

The mandir is in Bussy-Saint-Georges, a town in the eastern suburbs of Greater Paris. The official address is:

Allée Madame de Montespan, 77600 Bussy-Saint-Georges, Paris, France

Bussy-Saint-Georges is about 25 km (roughly 16 miles) east of central Paris and sits directly on the RER A train line, which makes it easy to reach from the city and from the airport.

Please note: some online searches wrongly link the mandir to “Chantilly.” The correct and official location is Bussy-Saint-Georges, not Chantilly.

How do you register for the Paris Mandir Mahotsav?

Registration is required to attend the Mahotsav, and it is free. BAPS uses a simple four-step process through its official myBAPS portal. You can register yourself, your family members, and guests.

  1. Step 1 — Create a login account on the official festival registration portal (myBAPS). If you do not have a Satsangi ID, choose the “Sign up now” option to register as a guest.
  1. Step 2 — Add yourself and everyone travelling with you (household members and guests).
  1. Step 3 — Once registration opens for specific events, select the days and programmes you wish to attend.
  1. Step 4 — Complete all steps to receive your confirmation. Your registration is confirmed only after all four steps are done.

What happens during the inauguration and evening programmes?

The Mahotsav is far more than a ribbon-cutting. Across the 13 days, you can expect:

  • Sacred ceremonies — the sacred Murti Pratishtha, where the deities are consecrated and the mandir comes to life;
  • Daily darshan and aarti — devotional assemblies, bhajans, kirtan, and aarti led by sadhus and devotees;
  • Cultural programmes — performances, exhibitions, and presentations that share the story and values of the mandir;
  • Guru’s blessings — the rare blessings of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual guru of BAPS;
  • Community and seva — a chance to meet devotees from around the world and feel the unity of the global satsang.

For most families, simply being present for the murti pratishtha and the evening assemblies is the heart of the trip. Plan a few unhurried days so you do not have to rush.

What about darshan timings, Shayona café, tickets, and photography?

These are the most-asked practical questions, so here are honest, accurate answers:

  • Tickets — BAPS mandirs are free to enter. There is no entry ticket. For the Mahotsav, you only need to complete the free registration described above.
  • Timings — Regular daily darshan and aarti timings for the Paris mandir will be published by BAPS after the September 2026 opening. During the Mahotsav itself, follow the festival schedule and your registration details.
  • Shayona café — Many BAPS mandirs around the world have a Shayona café or food hall serving vegetarian food and prasad. Details and menu for the Paris location are expected to be confirmed around the opening, so check the official site closer to your visit.
  • Photography — Photography rules vary by area of the mandir. As a respectful guideline, avoid photography inside the inner sanctum / during ceremonies unless it is clearly allowed, and follow the signs and volunteers’ guidance.
  • Dress code — Dress modestly out of respect — shoulders and knees covered. Traditional Indian wear is lovely for darshan. You will remove footwear before entering the mandir, so easy slip-on shoes help.

We have kept this section free of invented timings on purpose. Anything not yet officially confirmed by BAPS, we have flagged clearly so your plans stay accurate.

Which airport is nearest, and how do you reach the mandir?

The nearest major international airport is Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), about 24 km (roughly 30 minutes by car) from Bussy-Saint-Georges. The second Paris airport, Orly (ORY), is further south. For travellers from the USA, CDG is the airport to aim for, since most direct flights from America land there.

Once you land, here are your options to reach Bussy-Saint-Georges:

Option How it works Approx. time
Taxi / private car Direct from CDG to Bussy-Saint-Georges — easiest with luggage About 30 minutes
Train (RER) RER B from CDG, change to RER A toward Marne-la-Vallée; get off at Bussy-Saint-Georges About 1 hour
Via Disneyland line Train to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy, then RER A two stops back to Bussy-Saint-Georges About 40–60 minutes

The mandir is a short ride from Bussy-Saint-Georges RER A station. A taxi or pre-booked car is the most comfortable choice when you are travelling with elders, children, or luggage.

When should you book flights from the USA to Paris for September 2026?

Short answer: book early — ideally several months ahead. For flights from the USA to Europe, the sweet spot is usually 2 to 8 months before departure. For a September 2026 trip, that means watching fares and booking around spring to early summer 2026

There is one extra reason to book early for this trip. Thousands of devotees from around the world will be flying to Paris for the same festival in the same two weeks. That demand can push seats and prices up, especially on the popular dates around 4–7 September. The earlier you book, the better your choice and price.

A few simple money-saving tips:

  • Use the shoulder season — September is shoulder season in Paris — milder weather and generally lower fares than peak summer, which works in your favour if you book before the festival rush.
  • Flexible days help — Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays often have lower fares than Sundays.
  • Be a little flexible — If your dates can shift by a day or two, you can often save a meaningful amount.
  • Let experts track it — Let our team set fare alerts and watch the route for you, so you do not have to check prices every day.

Do not wait for prices to climb. GoGo Trips works with 130+ airlines to find affordable USA–Paris fares for your festival dates.

Which US cities have flights to Paris, and which airlines fly there?

Many major US cities offer non-stop flights to Paris (CDG), and almost every city can reach Paris with one connection. Direct routes are common from cities such as:

US city (sample) Typical non-stop to Paris?
New York (JFK) & Newark (EWR) Yes — several daily non-stops
Boston, Washington (IAD), Atlanta Yes — non-stop options
Chicago (ORD), Miami, Detroit Yes — non-stop options
Houston, Dallas, Charlotte, Philadelphia Yes — non-stop options
Los Angeles, San Francisco Yes — non-stop options
Other cities (e.g. Phoenix, Seattle, Orlando) Usually one easy connection

Airlines that fly USA to Paris include Air France, Delta, United, and American on direct routes, plus carriers like Lufthansa, KLM, British Airways, and others on one-stop options. Newark (EWR) to CDG is one of the most convenient non-stops for many NRI families on the East Coast.

Which airline is “cheapest” changes week to week and depends on your city and dates. Rather than guessing, tell our team your home airport and travel window, and we will compare fares across airlines for you.

How many days do you need for the Paris Mandir trip?

It depends on what you want from the trip. Here is a simple guide:

Trip style Suggested length Good for
Festival only 4–5 days Attending the ceremony and darshan, then heading home
Mandir + Paris sightseeing 6–8 days The Mahotsav plus Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and the city
Mandir + Europe tour 9–16 days Combining the festival with Switzerland, Italy, and more

Most families travelling all the way from the USA prefer to make the most of the journey by adding a few sightseeing days or a wider Europe tour. If that sounds like you, the next section is for you.

Can you extend the trip into a Europe tour after the mandir?

Yes — and many devotees do. Since you have already flown across the Atlantic, it makes sense to see more of Europe. Popular add-ons from Paris include:

  • Switzerland — Interlaken, Lucerne, and the snow-capped Alps;
  • Italy — Rome, Venice, and Florence;
  • Belgium and the Netherlands — Brussels, Bruges, and Amsterdam;
  • Germany and Austria — for a longer grand tour.

A guided group tour takes the stress out of trains, hotels, and routes — especially helpful for families and elders. GoGo Trips can bundle your flights, hotels, and a multi-country Europe tour around your Mahotsav dates, so everything is handled in one place.

Make it a full Europe yatra. Ask GoGo Trips about a group tour that begins with the BAPS Paris Mandir Mahotsav. Explore tours

Do US citizens and NRIs need a visa for France in September 2026?

This depends on your passport, so read the row that applies to you:

You are travelling on a… What you need for September 2026
US passport No Schengen visa for short stays (up to 90 days). ETIAS (a simple online travel authorisation) is expected to begin only in late 2026, so it may not yet be required for early-mid September — but always check the official ETIAS site before you fly.
Indian passport (NRI / green-card holder not yet naturalised) You need a France Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa. Apply through the official France visa centre well in advance, as appointment slots fill up before busy travel periods.

For everyone: make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates, and keep your festival registration, flight, and hotel details handy. A new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) also records fingerprints and a photo when you arrive — this is normal and quick.

Visa rules can change. Confirm the latest requirements for your nationality before booking non-refundable travel. Our team can guide you on documents, though the visa decision always rests with the embassy.

What should you pack and know before you go?

Here is a quick checklist for a smooth, worry-free trip from the USA:

  • Passport (valid 6+ months), visa if required, and printed copies of your festival registration.
  • Modest clothing for darshan, plus a light jacket — Paris evenings in September can be cool.
  • Comfortable slip-on shoes (you will remove footwear at the mandir) and walking shoes for sightseeing.
  • Any regular medicines, a power adapter (Europe uses Type C/E plugs), and a little euro cash for small purchases.
  • Travel insurance — strongly recommended for international trips, especially with elders or children.
  • Hotel booked early near Bussy-Saint-Georges or along the RER A line, as rooms fill fast during the Mahotsav.

Paris weather in early September is usually mild and pleasant — comfortable for both darshan and sightseeing — so you will not need heavy winter clothing.
